What is Idle Air Control Valve

The idle speed control valve (IAC Valve, IACV) is a valve mounted on the throttle body side vent to regulate the idle speed of the vehicle and ensure that the vehicle does not stall at low idle speeds. At idle speed, the throttle is almost completely closed.

When the engine speed is below 750RPM, the idle speed control valve will operate in time to increase the engine speed and will stop when the engine speed exceeds 1050RPM.

In the car equipped with cold air system, this control valve is also called idle speed boost valve after the cold air compressor operation, the engine load, so that the engine idle speed decreases, and the idle speed control valve then act to maintain the stability of the idle speed.

Idle speed control valve role is to control the idle speed of the car, the engine computer according to the throttle position sensor signal to control the idle speed control valve opening, according to the coolant temperature sensor, engine speed sensor, air conditioning switch signal to control the idle speed control valve opening angle, so as to control the idle speed of the engine operation.

1, normal idle speed: the vehicle is in a parked state to start the engine, the minimum speed of stable engine operation is called parking idle speed (engine from cold idle state to the engine to reach the normal operating temperature of the idle state conversion process called warm-up or warm-up).

2, forced idle speed: car suspension process, do not step on the gas pedal or release the drive gas pedal to maintain the minimum opening of the throttle, at this time the engine speed and parking idle speed, called the driving idle speed.

3, air conditioning idling speed: in the use of automotive air conditioning, the compressor work, due to increased engine load, the engine ECU (computer) will be forced to increase the amount of fuel, idling speed will increase, based on the normal idling speed increased by 200 rpm.

Idle speed control valve is to control idle speed, if the idle speed control valve does not work, then the idle speed will be unstable.
